Background of APOSH: Ashokta Punarbashan Sangstha (APOSH) emerged as a Shelf-Help Group of ex-drug users in Rajshahi in 1999. APOSH has been giving the detoxification, treatment and rehabilitation services since 2000 and rendered services to approximately 5,250 helpless and needy clients during the period. In 2003 APOSH started working with CARE Bangladesh DFID funded HIV program. In addition, APOSH has done some philanthropic works in the local community with regard to raising awareness about stop drug dependency. In 2004 APOSH served detoxification services for drug users under the HAPP Projects. In 2006, CARE Bangladesh extended its partnership with APOSH for implementing the UNDOC Project. Over the years it has gained programmatic and institutional experience in HIV prevention. APOSH also engaged outreach and advocacy work as part on an IDU program in the North-western region of Bangladesh later on. APOSH first started harm reduction services under GFATM project through establishing drop-in-centres (DICs) at the most at risk zones of the north-western districts of Bangladesh. Although APOSH is new in harm reduction services to the most at risk population but due to its sincerity and devotion of the employees made APOSH successful in this area.
